A semiprecious type of Chalcedony, Agate is a microcrystalline variety of Quartz. It is created by a series of processes that happen in cavities within solidified lava. Most Agate that you will see is banded and can be found in any color in the spectrum.
This thick Agate slice is very interesting to look at. It captures hues of molten orange and the center is marked by swirling bands of white. I feel a deep appreciation for the processes that this specimen had to undergo in order for it to be before us today. It's a piece of time's past that can fit right in the palm of your hand. In my opinion, this specimen is truly a must have for collectors and budding geologists alike.
