Agate is a cryptocrystalline variety of silica, mainly chalcedony & is characterized by its fineness of grain & brightness of color. Although Agates may be found in various kinds of rock, they are classically associated with volcanic rocks & can be common in certain metamorphic rocks. The botryoidal texture forms when many nearby nuclei, specks of sand, dust, or other particles, are present. Layers of Agate are deposited radially around the nuclei. As more Agate is deposited, the spheres grow larger & eventually overlap with those that are nearby. This sample is a “fire agate” which draws its brown color from iron impurities.
This specimen almost looks edible! It resembles a roasted marshmallow in my opinion. The whole exterior of the mineral has a toasty orangish brown color, but a few pieces are broken & you can see the dark red & white layers of agate underneath the exterior. Every angle of this piece is divine & unique to look at. 😍
Agate promotes inner stability, composure, & maturity. It’s warm, protective properties encourage security & self-confidence. It is a great crystal to use during pregnancy. Agate helps new mothers avoid the "baby blues" sometimes experienced after giving birth.
