Agate is a cryptocrystalline variety of silica, mainly Chalcedony & is characterized by its fineness of grain and brightness of color. Although agates may be found in various kinds of rock, they are classically associated with volcanic rocks & can be common in certain metamorphic rocks. The botryoidal texture forms when many nearby nuclei, specks of sand, dust, or other particles, are present. Layers of Agate are deposited radially around the nuclei. As more agate is deposited, the spheres grow larger & eventually overlap with those that are nearby. This sample is a “fire agate” which draws its brown color from iron impurities.
This piece is so mesmerizing! They botryoidal structure is so weird, but it's one of my favorites. To me, this looks like a crashing wave that has frozen in time.
Agate promotes inner stability, composure, & maturity. It’s warm, protective properties encourage security and self-confidence. It is a great crystal to use during pregnancy. Agate helps new mothers avoid the "baby blues" sometimes experienced after giving birth.
