Petrified wood is a fossil. It forms when plant material is buried by sediment & protected from decay due to oxygen and organisms. Then, groundwater rich in dissolved solids flows through the sediment, replacing the original plant material with Silica, Calcite, Pyrite, or another inorganic material such as Opal.
The ocher hue of this petrified wood is mesmerising. I love that its bands almost look like milk being poured into coffee. It is just a lovely piece!
Petrified Wood looks great as a decoration or for specimen collection. Petrified Wood is used to help connect with the earth & nature. It is a good way for city dwellers to keep nature nearby & encourages people to respect their environment & live in harmony with the planet.
