Petrified wood is a fossil. It forms when plant material is buried by sediment & protected from decay due to oxygen & organisms. Then, groundwater rich in dissolved solids flows through the sediment, replacing the original plant material with Silica, Calcite, Pyrite, or another inorganic material such as Opal.
This Petrified Wood slab is stunning. I love the deep tan colors that are complimented by a slight red tone. The live edge on this piece is beautiful. This would be a great center piece on a table for resting glasses, or for keeping your keys.
Petrified wood looks great as a decoration or for specimen collection. Petrified Wood is used to help connect with the earth & nature. It's is a good way for city dwellers to keep nature nearby and encourages people to respect their environment & live in harmony with the planet.
