Turgite is a mixture of two minerals due to the alteration of Goethite, typically found in a botryoidal habit of the parent Goethite; however, because it is a mixture of two minerals, it is not considered a mineral in itself. It is typically iridescent. The iridescence is due to the parent Goethite, which is a variation of Hematite, altering into this variation of Hematite, called Turgite.
This Turgite specimen looks like it came from outer space if you ask me. The structures and texture of this specimen remind me of rainbow icicles or even seagrass that you’d find living in the ocean. However you see it, one thing is for sure… this specimen is out of this world!
